What has been said about Engagelive

Senator Stephen Conroy, the Australian Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy:

“Cybersmart Detectives is an exciting, interactive online activity where children work online in real-time to solve an internet-themed problem. ACMA will be providing the program free-of-charge to schools.”

What the Teachers Say ...

"I have been using E-ngagelive for the last three years. The children really get involved in this interactive ‘hands on’ activity by working in mixed ability groups."  Julia Martin- an ICT Teaching Assistant from a primary school near Wisbech, Cambridgeshire

“The sense of reality is striking and the retention of knowledge is high. And on top of all that, relations between young people and the professional services are visibly enhanced.” Brian Smith

“The children really get into the activities and they work so hard using many different skills.” Ann Chappel

“I thought it was great.  I currently teach Internet Safety using NetSmartz and this would be a great addition to it for the 5th graders.” Collins Trott- a technology teacher from an elementary school near Atlanta, Georgia, USA

“E-ngage is the real world they seen it and understand and learn and then apply what they have learned, we saw that at Junior Citizen things learned online where applied in the practical simulation.” Fiona Davis

“Young people are able to use technology and feel very comfortable in a way adults find difficult to understand, E-ngage gives students the chance to think about difficult issues and still feel comfortable.” Mick Cooley

"Jimmy (not his real name) does not normally make a lot of effort, but today working with the online activity he was working really hard at all he was doing including his literacy, numeracy. At the end of the session he said, can we have another day off school like this tomorrow."

"Just to say that the activity yesterday was great.  The children really enjoyed it and all said they had learned a lot from it.  They were very interested in the scenarios and talked about them extensively afterwards.  It was a huge success here with 17 of our Year 6 children taking part - I hope it will be run again for future years." Julia Martin, Elm

"I'm reminded constantly - but as I said, I think it is a reflection of how engaged they are in the activity.  I have had lots of questions about whether you do this 24/7 (!), whether it is me typing the answers, whether you are real people.... Some of them remember meeting you for the Forensics day and were surprised when I let slip that you used to be a policeman - they obviously thought your act on the day was reality!"  Caroline

"Firstly a big thank you all round for making Engage in Peterborough a big success and please pass on our thanks to the PCSOs who supported throughout the week. We had a BRAVE group meeting yesterday.  Dave and I were able to feedback to the group the positive aspects of the Engage activity. Comments from the schools I visited were very encouraging in that the pupils loved the activity, were on task and involved and felt more informed around bullying issues as a result of the activity. They definitely want more of this."

"All pupils really enjoyed the activities. I have attached the feedback the children produced for our school newsletter. I think that the scenarios and the polls were just right. It was good to see the anti-bullying champions of different year groups working together really effectively."

"Thank you for the sessions our students took part in this morning, it was very interesting and the way the situation developed really grabbed the attention of the children." Kerry Jepson

"They all wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who gave their time to run the sessions.  This is such a valuable resource because the children really do take on board the problems.  We can't stop children using the Internet and social networking but we can help educate them on how to keep safe."           Lesley Sheppard Hordon on the Hill

"My class has just finished this - they rated it very highly!  About 8 - 9 out of 10 for each group - one group wanted videos!!!"

"Many said they feel they've learnt a lesson so thank you for a great activity." Cazz Colmer

"The session led to some important discussion on the issues relevant to this age group."

What the Pupils Say

"I thought that it was fun and if I could go on it again I would. I have learnt that if you don’t steal from the shop and get someone else to do it you will still get in trouble."

"I thought that the shop thief was fun - we caught all the people like Cheryl and Craig Anderson. We had to write police messages and they would write back in about 10 minutes to give us clues. If we wanted to arrest them for stealing then they would arrest them for us."

"The one thing that I enjoyed the most about the shop thief is that we got to solve a crime and it feels like you’re in a police station. I also enjoyed the tension of the text. We were getting more information and I helped us to figure out the crime. It was pretty hard but it was worth the while. So if I had the chance to go back on the website I would."

"I thought that the program was fun and I liked typing on the computer. If I could I would have a go on it again. I learnt that if you get other people to steal for you, you could still get in bad trouble by the police. I also learnt that you don’t always have to do what other people tell you to do."

"I liked it because it was fun and I liked solving the problems. Also it gave me a chance to work as a team."

"I enjoyed it because it gave me a chance to work as a team and felt like a police officer."

"We are all very exited apparently this is bigger than Ben Her."

"Thank you for helping us learn a bit more about bullying we have enjoyed this we think this web site should be web site of the year thanks."

"Thanks for talking about this live I always wanted an example of people cyber bullying"

"Yes it really has and it was really fun hope to talk to you next anti bullying week when we wil be in year 7."

"I think this was the best school trip so far."
